Arunachal Pradesh Launches Mega Oil Palm Plantation Drive to Promote Agricultural Growth and Rural Empowerment
In a major move towards agricultural reform and economic growth, Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday inaugurated a massive oil palm plantation drive at Aara-Camp, Abali in the Lower Dibang Valley district. The drive, conducted under the theme “Sowing for a Better Future,” was inaugurated formally by Gabriel D Wangsu, the state minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, and Fisheries.
3F Oil Palm’s plantation drive was a joint initiative with the district agriculture office and united a diverse array of stakeholders such as local farmers, government representatives, and members of the agriculture sector. The drive is an important step for the state’s overall drive towards sustainable and commercially viable agriculture, particularly in regions that have untapped agricultural potential.
In his address to the crowd, Minister Wangsu emphasized the significance of the drive’s broader goal, calling oil palm production “not only a state mission, but our national mission.” He emphasized oil palm’s potential as a high-yielding, income-producing crop that may help boost regional economies and reduce India’s reliance on imported edible oils. Applauding the efforts of local farmers already engaged in oil palm farming, he encouraged them to become role models for others across the state. “Your success can serve as inspiration. Share your stories and methods so other regions may follow,” he urged.
Puinnyo Apu, a local MLA, expressed this view and urged the farming community to participate actively in agricultural programs that contribute to national development, referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a self-reliant India (Atmanirbhar Bharat). “By embracing such progressive schemes, our farmers are not just supporting themselves—they’re supporting the entire nation,” he said.
The event was graced by a number of prominent dignitaries, such as Agriculture Director T D Neckom, the SP and ADC of Lower Dibang Valley, 3F Oil Palm senior officials, and departmental heads of various agricultural and allied departments. Their presence indicated robust institutional backing for the initiative.
With this plantation drive, Arunachal Pradesh takes a bold step toward enhancing rural livelihoods, ensuring food and economic security, and promoting sustainable agriculture in the Northeast.
