₹140 Crore to Strengthen Rural Connectivity with Bridge Projects in Himachal Pradesh
The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-III for Himachal Pradesh has approved bridge projects totaling more than ₹140 crore. Vikramaditya Singh, the PWD Minister in the Sukhvinder administration of Himachal Pradesh, gave this wonderful news.
“The Ministry of Rural Development has approved bridge projects worth over ₹140 crore proposed by the state government under PMGSY-III,” Minister Vikramaditya Singh declared.
These authorized projects, which are included in Batch-I of PMGSY-III for 2024–2025, involve the ₹140.90 crore building and renovation of 21 bridges.
According to an official announcement, the state government will give ₹14.09 crore, and the Ministry of Rural Development will donate ₹126.81 crore. Specifically in the districts of Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Lahaul, and Spiti, these programs seek to greatly improve rural connectivity. The state government’s compliance report and the recommendations of an authorized committee preceded the approval.
Vikramaditya Singh underlined that by providing all-weather communication in isolated locations, these bridges will fortify the road system. A 110-meter-long double-lane motorable bridge across the Beas River in Pandoh, Mandi district, is one of several bridges in Himachal Pradesh that have been approved for renovation to enhance road connection.
Vikramaditya Singh sent his appreciation to Shivraj Singh Chauhan, the Union Minister of Rural Development, for sanctioning these projects. He said that in order to guarantee the highest levels of quality, the approval is subject to certain requirements. The state government will do geotechnical studies, confirm structural designs, calculate the catchment area, and verify hydraulic data prior to releasing tenders. A bridge management cell with skilled personnel will be developed to guarantee seamless implementation. In accordance with Indian Road Congress (IRC) guidelines, the government would also send out independent inspectors and guarantee stringent quality checks, including as pile integrity and acceptance load testing.
