Empowered Villages Are the Foundation of a Viksit Bharat: Union Minister Shri Chandrasekhar Pemmasani
Regional Workshop on PMAY-G Held in Goa to Strengthen Rural Housing and Welfare
Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Shri Chandrasekhar Pemmasani, emphasized that the dream of a Viksit Bharat — a developed India — cannot be fulfilled without empowering rural communities. Speaking at the Regional Rural Workshop under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) in Miramar, Goa, he said, “When our villages progress, the entire nation moves forward.”
Highlighting the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Minister said PMAY-G is more than just a housing scheme — it represents hope, dignity, and security for millions. “Under this initiative, we aim to build 4.95 crore homes by March 2029. Already, 3.90 crore targets have been allocated, 3.69 crore homes sanctioned, and 2.76 crore houses completed. These are not just numbers — they are homes where children study in peace and elders live with dignity,” he said.
He further added that the government is not just building houses — it is building holistic rural habitats. PMAY-G is being linked with key schemes like Ujjwala Yojana (for clean cooking fuel), Jal Jeevan Mission (for safe drinking water), and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (for sanitation), to ensure that every family has access to a better quality of life.
“We are also training local youth as skilled masons under our capacity-building programs,” Shri Pemmasani shared. “This is not just about building houses — it’s about building livelihoods, creating local employment, and turning rural youth into change-makers of their own destiny.”
Looking to the future, the Minister spoke of new initiatives like Green Housing, where eco-friendly construction meets affordability, and the use of Artificial Intelligence to fairly select beneficiaries. “Technology will help ensure that support reaches those who truly need it — based on merit, not influence,” he said.
The government’s efforts are also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to make sure that India’s villages contribute to global progress. New ways of supporting people, such as improved microfinance systems, are also being introduced to help villagers turn small ideas into big achievements.
“As we enter the Amrit Kaal,” he said, “our focus is on quality, sustainability, and impact. Every pucca house built with proper planning and support becomes a symbol of national growth and people’s pride.”
The workshop was also attended by Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Goa Rural Development Minister Shri Govind Gaude, and senior officials from both the Centre and the state.
