Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, visited his parliamentary constituency Vidisha, and chaired a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in Raisen. The focus of the meeting was to strengthen rural development and examine root causes of ongoing issues faced by farmers, women and villagers.

Calling it a “grave sin” to sell counterfeit fertilisers, the Minister directed officials to take the strictest action against such wrongdoers. He emphasized that cheating farmers harms the entire rural economy. He also checked the procurement process of moong (green gram) and instructed officials to monitor procurement centers for fairness and efficiency.

“Public Welfare is the Top Priority”

Shri Chouhan urged government officials and local leaders to focus all efforts on public welfare and timely delivery of development projects. He asked them to ensure that no eligible family is left out of government schemes. Emphasizing on field visits, he said that people’s issues must be heard and addressed firsthand.

“PM Awas Yojana Homes Must Be Completed On Time”

The Minister closely reviewed the implementation of PM Awas Yojana – Gramin (Awas Plus), stressing that beneficiaries must receive their installments on time and homes should be built without delay. In 2024–25, 27,981 houses have been sanctioned in Gram Panchayats, with 4,825 already completed and the rest under construction.

“Lakhpati Didis are the Pride of Rural India”

The Minister highlighted the success of the Lakhpati Didi initiative, under which rural wome#VidishaVisitn become financially independent. “Every Village Must Be Connected to a Main Road”

To boost connectivity, Shri Chouhan reviewed the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and directed that no village should remain cut off. Under the 2024–25 plan, 30 roads spanning 276 km have been approved, and most are nearing completion. He also reviewed progress on rural bridges and National Highway projects in the district.

“Field inspections are very important for the sustainability of crops”

The minister directed all agriculture officers to inspect field activities, improve farmers’ pest management capacity, and educate farmers on the safe use of pesticide; this is especially important in light of the recent reports that some local Basmati rice was rejected in international markets because they were found to contain banned chemicals. Meanwhile, he has called upon Krishi Vigyan Kendras to provide information regarding the benefits of following modern agricultural practices and reviewing preparations for the coming Rabi crops.

“Clean Drinking Water and Reliable Electricity for Every Home”
